SHELBY
-- Shelby is a 2 year old spayed female border collie, possibly mixed with setter or retriever, who was found as a stray. She is a uniquely colored tri merle with different colored eyes.

Shelby is a sweet girl who lives to play with other dogs and is OK with dog-savvy cats. She loves people, but does bark a bit when she first sees them, particularly men. But she quickly warms up and is affectionate with her people.

Shelby is up to date on shots and healthy. She loves to run, tug and play fetch and enjoys being outside. She has been OK with school-aged children and loves to play ball with them too. She is OK with all kinds of handling, vet care and grooming and rides well in the car.

Shelby is a dog who is very keen to learn new things and do any kind of work with her people. She would love to learn a sport or engage in training.

Shelby currently lives on a horse farm Pine Plains, NY where she respects the horses and donkey. She needs training and supervision around other types of livestock.

Please contact Louise Merriman for more information about Shelby 518-398-1188.

COCO
-- Coco is 7 years old (birthday in April), is up to date on shots, Frontline, Heartguard, etc. and has annual vet exams (last one 6/26/09). No health problems have been discovered other than her herding behavior. She takes Prozac once a day to control that. It is around $6 / month at Costco. Blood work has been run to test that that is not having adverse affects on her systems.

She has been great with our other dogs (mostly lab mixes) and our children, as well as other children, and visitors. She is the one that the kids fight over getting to sleep with at sleep overs.

She needs a home that is not on a busy street with many bicyclists, runners, etc. crossing the house each day. It is when she gets out of the house accidentally off lead that we have issues. We have NO issues at all with her inside the house or in the dog run. She did very well with the invisible fence situation at my husband's house before she moved in here. He was on a private drive with 2 other homes so there wasn't a lot of activity going by the house on a constant basis. Our home is not able to have an invisible fence set up.

She is quite smart, very very affectionate, loves to curl up on laps and in bed with the kids. Her coat is super soft and does not shed much (wish the other dogs were the same!). Coco is unknown with cats, and weighs approximately 50lbs.

OREO
-- Oreo is a 6 year old male(neutered) smooth coat Border Collie.

Oreo possesses all of the intelligence, energy, agility and affection that is typical of a border collie, but needs a new home where he can have the time and attention that he deserves and the room to run free away from dangers of traffic or with a fenced in yard.

Oreo does respond well to human command. He lives in central Vermont in the Killington - Woodstock area.

Call Steve at 860-614-2113 to inquire further about adopting Oreo.

ROMEO -- Romeo is a very sweet and laid-back border collie/shepard or lab mix in Nashua NH. He's about 2 years old and roughly 65 lbs. He's very good with children and other dogs, small animals, and anything else he meets. He walks perfectly on a leash and is learning sit and come. He's crate trained and doesn't bark in the crate while I'm gone at work.

Housebroken, UTD on shots, heartworm, etc., and recently neutered. Still learning what toys are, how to carry a ball around, and how to catch a Frisbee. I'd love to see him live with a family, other dogs, a yard--the good life!

BOONE -- We believe that Boone is a mix of Lab, Border Collie, & Shepard. He is four years old (will be five in January). He has shiny, silky, thick, flat lying black double coat that looks great whether just groomed or after a run on a dusty trail.

Boone is a devoted, loyal, affectionate, independent, highly intelligent, usually obedient but could use continued training to keep from boredom and barking. He loves to run and is a great exercise and hiking companion. He is excitable when visitors come to the door, but he settles down soon after.

Boone has been struggling with being anxious around young children. Despite our vigilance and monitoring, he has snapped at our toddler son once and bitten our niece once. We think both were provoked by the child grabbing at him - he is not an aggressive dog by nature.

We realize that this environment is not fair to Boone, and is proving to be a setup for him to feel like he needs to protect himself. We are truly heartbroken to be considering another home for him, but we don't see any way to make things better for all involved right now except to find him a home that will be better suited for him. It is our sincere hope that someone will be able to help us. We are in Massachusetts, west of Boston.

SAMMY -- Sammy is almost 12 years old and has been a member of our family for just about all of that time. We acquired him when my husband took him away from a man who was treating him abusively and, we think, was trying to abandon him at a gas station. Mark brought him home and our first thought was that we would find another home for him as we lived in a small apartment and already had a large dog, but he and our lab mix got along so well together--his presence cured our dog's separation anxiety--that after a couple of days we decided to keep him.

We took him to the vet the day after Mark brought him home and we were informed that he was a slightly malnourished but otherwise healthy, 8-week-old, purebred border collie. We also were shocked to find out that the previous owner had docked his tail. Fortunately it had healed well and did not appear to be painful.

Sammy grew up with us and has been a loyal, loving, obedient, and intelligent family dog from the start. He is fully housebroken and obeys commands to sit, lie down, stay, and heel. He loves to swim, play frisbee, and chase tennis balls. He adjusted just fine to our growing family and is very loving and protective of our three children. He is an excellent watchdog--his hearing is fine and he is very alert to unfamiliar sounds and people in the area. He has never had a single health problem. We have taken good care of him and kept him up to date on his vaccines.

It is important to mention that Sammy has an alpha personality and, while he loves people and has never shown any aggression toward an adult or child, he is very aggressive toward other dogs, and this tendency has worsened as he has grown older and since our lab mix (the only dog Sammy ever could tolerate) passed away. Obedience training did not help the problem, and the trainer did tell us that it was probably in his nature. In a home with a fenced yard where he has room to run and has no chance of encountering another dog, Sammy exhibits no behavior problems.

We found out 6 months ago that our youngest child is allergic to dogs. We have tried to manage the allergy through frequent cleaning and grooming but his allergy has worsened, and have been informed by the allergist that continued exposure to Sammy could contribute to other health problems as our son grows. We are heartbroken that we can no longer keep him but we must think of our son's health. We would love Sammy to have a home with someone who would enjoy having an older dog as a loyal companion, and who would have room for him to run outdoors.

If you are interested in adopting Sammy or would like more information, please contact Kathleen Doehla at (203) 260-0215 or mkdoehla@gmail.com

GUS -- Gus will be 6 yrs in October. He is a gorgeous border collie from working lines in Pennsylvania. His parents herd geese/ducks. He has a high drive and is awesome at any game you play with him. He is a big boy; about 50 lbs; is UTD on rabies/distemper and bordetella; as well as being neutered. He is very good with cats that know dogs (would probably chase the heck out of a scaredy cat!) =); and does well with 98% of the dogs he meets. He doesn't like dogs that come off overly intimadating or macho. He is best meeting dogs off leash. He is very good with kids. He is petrified of thunderstorms; scared silly of anything that sound like a big bang- heavy winds; dumptrucks dropping their loads; etc. Here is where his resume gets sketchy.

Gus has a very hard time meeting people. I got him at 13 months and he was already dead set against meeting people of any kind. In three yrs I've gotten him to a point where he can walk by people, see people in the car or in his crate and not go crazy. Done right, he can meet people in my home. I would never introduce him to someone on the street. He is difficult to read and I have never found a trigger point. Nothing that I can pinpoint to say this is what he doesn't like....my trainer says he has a bully mentality. "I scare you cuz I'm insecure and if I scare you, you won't know how scared I am...." I understand this; but have yet to get him to a point where he's secure I guess.

Gus has nipped two people and bitten one. No broken skin though. I am very laid back and easygoing and it DOES make me nervous that I can't tell when he's going to have an issue with someone. I know I'm not the right home for him. He needs to be doing something, more than what I do with him. I'm hoping that if he has a job; and with the right person; he will be secure and will improve. He has a TON of potential. Most folks that have met him, say so. And I truly believe he can be better in the right situation;or I wouldn't even be trying to find him another place to go.

Gus is being fostered in Maine.

For more detailed info about Gus please call Veronica at 904-588-2680.
