New England Border Collie Rescue - Helping Border Collies in Need

Clara is a true delight! She is an approximately 6 year old, female, spayed border collie, and she loves attention and adores playing with other dogs. She came into rescue extremely overweight, and was just diagnosed with a thyroid deficiency. She is currently on a diet and fitness regime, as well as beginning medication to supplement her thyroid function (extremely affordable) and we know she will quickly slim down. The thyroid medication should also help her coat come in more nicely, as well.

Clara enjoys playing tug with people and dogs, wrestling and playing bitey face with her border collie foster brother, herding her aussie foster brother, playing in the kiddie pool, and racing at top speed around the yard.

She loves people and attention but does tend to bark a little when new people come to her yard or house. This behavior may improve with her thyroid medication, or it may just be a part of her personality. Either way, she is not over the top about it and can be redirected easily with a treat. She does well meeting new people when she is out and about.

Clara is sweet and easy going in the house. She is crate trained, but has proven herself trustworthy loose as well. She does fine with the cats in her foster home, although they are not always the best test since they are so good with dogs.

Clara needs work with walking on a loose leash and on other basic behaviors. Her adopters will be required to attend an approved positive reinforcement based training class with her, just to get everyone started on the right track and help with relationship building. She is up-to-date on vaccines and negative for heartworm and tickborne diseases.

Clara is being fostered in upstate NY.

You must have an approved application on file to be considered for any adoptable dog.

Please submit your application BEFORE inquiring about a particular dog.
