New England Border Collie Rescue - Helping Border Collies in Need

Delaney came into rescue in Aug 2014. She had been hit by a car and was turned over to NEBCR by the shelter that took her in so that could receive the medical attention she needed.

Delaney had a shattered pelvis and a broken right leg. After several medical procedures, a few months of crate rest and weekly physical therapy treatments, Delaney's body has healed and she is now ready to find her home.

The Good:
She is usually a very quiet girl and only recently started to bark. She only barks a few times and then is quiet again. She takes treats very gently and loves to cuddle once she warms up to you. She is very eager to learn new things. She loves her crate and will lay in it even when her door is open. She loves to go for walks but will need work on walking next to you and not walking around you. She will potty on command when you take her outside and it is really cold or raining. Delaney is just starting to play with toys. She prefers small stuffed toys that squeak.

The Not Quite So Good:
Delaney loves to de-stuff anything that has stuffing in it. Not sure if this is due to boredom or that she just enjoys it. She has ripped up a few beds and blankets while in foster care. She does better with items that have no stuffing in them. Delaney is not totally house trained. She has had to spend so much time in her crate she has not really learned how to tell you when she has to go. Her new family will have to be patient with her and work with her on this.

The Rest:
Delaney would be fine as a solo dog or with another low key doggie friend. Delaney is fine around other dogs but does not play with them. She is easily scared by dogs who bark a lot and are extremely rambunctious. She is fine around the cats in her foster home and the cats really like her.

Delaney is a bit shy with people and gets easily scared of noises outside. Her new home will be required to take her to obedience classes to help her bond with her new family.

Delaney is very nervous around little children so her new family would need to have older children who understand how to give Delaney the time she needs to trust new people.

Delaney will need a safe, contained environment to run around and explore in, and will therefore only be placed in a home with a fenced yard. Because of her shy nature, she is not a candidate for an electric/invisible fence.

Delaney is being fostered in CT.
