New England Border Collie Rescue - Helping Border Collies in Need

(see below)

Pixie was surrendered after her owner of 10 years passed away. Being Border Collie mixed with a Nordic breed or chowchow, she has the most adorable mischievous face (which prompted her name).

Pixie is smart, but fairly uneducated. She enjoys being clicker trained and is practising sit, down, sit pretty, touch, and go-to-your-mat at this time. She'd be a great prospect for trick training, working for treats!

Pixie is at an age where she doesn't require an abundance of exercise, but she does love to go for walks. She walks delightfully on leash and has a brisk trot, which can give her new family a nice gentle work-out. She may be able to run along with a slow jogger and is also learning to trot alongside a slowly ridden bicycle.

Pixie's social skills are a work in progress. She adores her foster family and allows them to handle her easily. However, Pixie is not fond of strangers, having to be convinced that they are treat-bearing, friendly humans. And Pixie will have to be an only dog. Though her foster family is working on reducing her fear aggression towards other dogs – and she is making progress – she will probably always have to be carefully managed around other dogs.

Pixie's ideal family would be an adult-only household, where someone is home most of the time. Pixie is quite happy to just hang out with her humans. She hasn't shown much playfulness, but this may change once she gets more comfortable in her forever home. She has shown short moments of toy-play.

Mostly, Pixie is laid-back, enjoying watching the world go by. Pixie does not like being crated, but will spend her nights in one quietly in her foster home. She'd much prefer to sleep on the carpet in your bedroom, though! ;-)

Pixie is being fostered in Eastern MA and qualifies for NEBCR's Seniors for Seniors program.
