New England Border Collie Rescue - Helping Border Collies in Need

Summer Breeze ~ ADOPTED

Yes

Summer Breeze is a lovely 5 year old gal. She was surrendered to the animal control center in Manhattan with the excuse that they landlord didn't allow pets. Luckily for her, she made her way to Border Collie Rescue. Although she is not a purebred border collie, she is a stunningly beautiful dog with an easy grace about her.

Summer gets along fine with the other dogs in her foster home although doesn't really interact with them directly. She does seem to be happy to relax near them when hanging out. She is interested but not aggressive with the cats, and so would likely do well with dog-savvy cats.

She is a real easy going pup and loves to hang out with her person or people, and to be pet. She will nudge your hand with her nose to encourage you to continue, should you forget! She also enjoys being brushed, and has a lovely glossy coat. She walks nicely on lead in her easy walk harness.

When she first came into foster care, she would bark when her person went out of sight, but this behavior has dissipated as she has become comfortable in her foster home. She will bark to let you know about people passing by, not a frantic bark, but rather just letting you know folks are about.

Summer is crate trained and in fact, really enjoys her crate. She goes right in when she comes inside the house and lies down, often wanting to sleep in, in the mornings! She comes out with a bit of encouragement, or if you just leave her be until she is ready, and then she is happy to come out and get attention, petting, and treats. ;-)

Summer can get a little worried that someone might want to steal her especially tasty treats, such as knuckle bones, and will guard them. We are working on this in foster care and will work with her adopter to continue to help her to feel more comfortable through her transition into her new home. The behavior is not severe, but it is something to be aware of and to work on. For this reason, Summer will not be placed in a home with children.

Summer came into rescue a bit overweight and has been on a diet and fitness program. She is currently doing very well on a raw diet (learn more here: http://rawlearning.com/rawfaq.html)

Summer has shown no interest in toys so far. She is fairly laid back, and lower in energy than a typical border collie. She has a calm and regal presence about her, and is quite a delightful dog.

If you are looking for a loving, quirky, gorgeous gal to share your life with, please consider welcoming Summer Breeze into your home... ;-)

A fenced yard is not required, but you should have a plan in place for how you will safely meet her exercise needs. Successful completion of an approved, positive reinforcement based training class will be a condition of her adoption.

Summer is being fostered in upstate NY near the VT border.

You must have an approved application on file to be considered for any adoptable dog.
