New England Border Collie Rescue - Helping Border Collies in Need

Tess is a 2 yr old spayed female border collie. She is a white factored black and white rough coated gal but when the shelter received her from a neglect case they had to shave her coat as she was covered in ticks.

The shelter then found her a home but she was returned for "spiteful peeing!" Now, if you know anything about dogs they really don't have "spite" in their behaviors. Poor girl was probably just not housetrained as her former owner had her living outside all the time.

Well, their loss is your gain. This is one of the most delightful girls I've fostered and she has some nice herding skills to boot. Tess would be at home working sheep or playing with an active family. We have had her out with our sheep a few times now and while she does need the basics installed, her instincts are fully intact and appropriate. She circles and backs off appropriately. We do not have to pull her off with the long line (which is not even held), she shows no urge to nip or grip. We are not experts but she appears to have some nice skills that can be nurtured along in a working home.

Tess is friendly to all she meets. She is a "dog herder" but stays on the outside and does not go in an nip anyone. This may freak dog park people out a bit though.

Because of her working ability I would love to see her go to either a farm home where she can also be a family member or to an agility home where she can focus her drive. She may be "too much dog" for an average pet home and I have a feeling bicycles and skateboards may be too much.

A positive reinforcement-based training class will be a requirement of her adoption.

Tess is being fostered in upstate NY.

You must have an approved application on file to be considered for any adoptable dog.

Please submit your application BEFORE inquiring about a particular dog.
